Love this little indie clothing line dubbed Velvet Leaf. Very feminine, great cuts, and sophisticated details (paper bag waists, bows, and hoods!)

I heart indie chick Jenna Malone. This cover is beautiful in a hipstesr/artsy way unlike the "generic celeb in gorgeous dress(photoshopped to death)" covers which are everywhere... this is actually refreshing!

New Playlist: The Handsome Furs

Posted on: Friday, April 11, 2008

I saw SPOON wednesday night at Terminal five with KM and MW. The Handsome Furs were opening for them, previously I had never heard of them, and I was so pleasantly surprised. I hate to say it but I actually enjoyed them a bit more than SPOON! They are an adorable duo consisting of Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry from Montreal who have a unique sound--dark brooding, mysterious yet somehow hopeful.

Boeckner also sings and plays guitar in Wolf Parade and Perry is a writer. I have two of their songs in this weeks playlist, let me know what you think!

Not sure how I overlooked this site but it is awesome. It has all the bad-ass girl indie clothing lines.

Here is there "about us" section which is so anti-corporate and brilliant!
"Cultistshop.com was launched in March 2007 by Yasi Salek and Robin Walker. Yasi enjoys crossword puzzles, a good scotch, and dressing in all black. Robin rides dirt bikes, buys $12 dish soap, and has a penchant for leotards. If they had a dance-off, Robin would win. But if they had a spelling bee, Yasi would win. This is what is known as balance.

The Tenets of Cultist

Tenet 1: Streetwear and sportswear are for everyone, not just Bape enswathed Nike shod Japanese men.

Tenet 2: Women’s clothing shall not exclusively be a) pastel, b) tight, or c) frilly. For that, there is Bebe.

Tenet 3: Be-dazzlers are for seven year olds.

Tenet 4: T-shirts are sexy.

Tenet 5: Books are good.

Tenet 6: Art is important.

Tenet 7: US Weekly is not a style bible.

Tenet 8: There are other countries besides the United States, and they make really nice clothes.

Tenet 9: Join us, and we will save you from the mall."

Stay tuned for some fav designer overviews coming up.

Yay! Finally a cover that doesn't have Agyness, Rachel, Jennifer, or etc etc on the cover. Check out the indie cool girls Clemence Poesy, Chloe Sevigny, and Anja Rubik rocking (what else? ) Chloe on the cover.

Audiko.net a new site that just launched makes it easier then ever to customize a ringtone. Perfect for those not-so-mainstream songs that you (and I) love. Just upload -cut out the minutes you like- and voila.

Plus their logo is awesome.
