Back to the Land of Orange Tans and Fake Nails.

Posted on: Friday, December 21, 2007

I am heading home to South Florida and I can say the only thing I am looking forward to is the weather and seeing some close friends.

Everytime I head home I realize a few things:
1. I wear a lot of black
2. I am not as tan as I think I am
3. People are smarter in the NorthEast
4. The fake tan industry must be really lucrative
5. I miss you New York

Also just a side note but why do cheesy/tacky girls always do the split finger tongue action in photos? I mean are you really a lesbian? Do you like going down on girls?

I will take Lindsay Lohan's lame ass peace sign over that.

RE-Capist!

In my perusing of blogs, I stumbled upon this gem.

http://www.averybeautifulstranger.blogspot.com/

Jostein, this adorable and super fashionable 15 year old living in Norway, gives us little insights and tips on his fashion sense and daily going-ons.

What a Cutie! Here are some quotes:
" friday i threw a little party at our house ( i have no idea if it's the correct expression, but i've wanted to write/say 'throw a party' for ages)"

"i reallyreallyreally need a haircut. it looks cool in front, but, like, 'behind', its sooo long. i look like a mix-up of an emo and.. i dunno. someone with long, fug hair. my principal btw let me go to the prom. yuuup."

art.

Loving these prints and my obsession with M.I.A. is still going.

Gear Alert.

Can a phone be sexy? Perhaps.

While the iPhone stands to reign as the geekiest-tech crowd worshipped phone of the year the Samsung Armani P520 takes the cake as the sexiest and most fashion forward!

The phone lets you listen to music, use the internet, and take pictures.

Ready to shell out $800

Hey. So I guess my day job (monitoring blogs for clients) has left little time for me to monitor for my own coverage.

Until NOW!

Check it out, I was linked to on Decor 8, one of my favorite design blogs.

Can too.

My dear friend, idol, food sharer, and sarcasm expert.... Naomi Hirabayashi has started her own blog of all things witty, do good-ish, and interesting.

Support her! By checking out this hot out of the oven goodness

and if that is not enough to tempt you, she is hot and Asian.

Street-sy

I love Street Art. It's funny because I can look at a giant mural by sayyyy Michaelangelo or any other amazingly talented person and appreciate it ...but not necessarily like it.

I love weird quirky things that you can find on the dirty street, in a hidden corner, or in NYC sometimes on your own building.

Streetsy.com
is a great blog that captures these.

Cute Chicks with Guns.

I am not sure if I'm offended, inspired, or in love with these Tees.

Alisa Leonard, social media genius and platinum blonde friend, has several blogs one of which is Met A Canary which is random musings of the twitter community. (And look who made it, me!)Well played miss Leonard!

Speaking of Beauty.

Check out FAFI for MAC!

Beauty Mags.

As far as the beauty magazine industry goes ALLURE seems to have everyone beat. However, those sly Brits are coming back with POWER POWER. Check out the new Beautique

I already like it better than ALLURE because they don't have some LAME celeb on the cover. What happened to art covers? or design covers? I am so sick of seeing celebs on the covers of beauty and fashion magazines. Maybe their stylists and makeup should be on the cover, eh?

Also there is Beautique for men. (Metrosexuals rejoice!)

This was my outfit Friday night. I am a big fan of the bow tie shirts I think that they will take over the tuxedo phenomenon which as you know I love but has taken over every store in SoHo and which will soon become the new leggings. bleh.

A note from me.

leave it to Mr. Jacobs.

Is it me or does he get more outrageous every day. Remember this guy?

CopyCats.

In this day and age when information and people are readily available 24/7 are ideas original anymore? Or how would we even know? It seems in this day and age (the so called information age ) similar ideas are sprouting up everywhere.

From Fashion (think forever 21 and any designer) to Movies (Capote, infamous) to Architecture (garage doors condos and shutter houses).

What do you think? Great minds think alike or ideas are ideas are ideas and whoever gets their idea in motion first , wins.

love these or hate these?

These are definitely a personality statement, if you got the personality to pull em off , You'll look like a rockstar... and if not- you might end up looking like eurotrash.

obsession.

My latest obsession comes from My Fashion Life this leather bow belt from TOPSHOP is a bit avant garde art piece and part stellar accessory. I can picture it with my LBD now. I can also picture my AMEX bill converting pounds to dollars, sigh.

Listen.

I am having a very much, "Why didn't I think about that?" moment. Peter Rojas New site RCRD LBL is "a network of ad-supported online record labels and blogs offering completely free music streams and downloads from emerging and established artists."

All very much in the vein if you can't beat em join em this site is seeing the feature of online music and not resisting. The site aesthetically looks nice very hip with black and bright colors with good user functionality as well.

My recommendations:

The Moths "Wild Bird"
Cold War Kids "Hang me up to dry"
Jacques Renault "Magic Games"

Could this be the new vest? Pseudo pants and vest combination is available at MILK. I can definitely see some Aygness look-alikes pulling this off but otherwise it could end up looking like a cowgirl lost in the city.

it's a circus out there.

Last night I went with my favorite VOGUE girls to the Circus 68 party at Home Sweet Home ( which is such an adorable spot in the LES think moose lodge meets glam).

Blonde Acid Cult performed and this group of devilishly sexy boys are 60s dandys with tight pants and a lead singer reminiscent of Mick Jagger in his hey day. My band aid instincts started to kick in which hasn't happened since my time in the London music scene.

This new Circus '68 party is hosted by an adorable tailor named Jordan who was decked out in a perfectly fitting grey suit with white detail. The theme is sixties, the music is alt psychedelic and the ambiance is the best I've seen in a while downtown. Hopefully the b & t, murray hill crowd doesn't get wind of it.

Favorite Item of the Week!

Is it weird to be jealous of a cartoon?
Fafi, a hipster icon in paris and extremely talented illustrator and graffiti artist, has great anime figures called FAFINETTES that are so cute, stylish , and punk.

More on Fafi

"Born and raised in Toulouse France, Fafi's strong presence in the graffiti and fine arts scene was first witnessed on her hometown walls in 1994. Back then, as she was painting and hustling, her sexy, funny, and sometimes aggressive girl characters made the whole world look and help kick-start a whole new graphic language; by exploring feminity through stereotypes, and using it to her advantage, she drew enormous attention and thus started to travel the world with thousands of Fafinettes in her brushes and paint cans. Europe, USA, Japan, Hong-Kong, the planet is a playground. And it's only started.
Soon enough Sony would ask her to design a six-character toy set for the Time Capsules collection, an almost natural move for her three-dimensional measures. Other successful figurines would follow, as well as numerous expositions and collaborations with Colette, Adidas, LeSportSac, Coca-Cola and countless press stories in the most prestigious magazines (ie. Vogue, Elle, The Face, XLR8R, Yen etc...).
The animation world started to eyeblink her vision in Mark Ronson video featuring a Fafi-ed Lily Allen.
Her multi-faceted work was all documented in her books GIRLS ROCK (2003) and LOVE AND FAFINESS (2006), both being also succesful prints in museum libraries and selected shops.
As for 2007, Fafi entered a new phase. Having become a mother and moving to Paris made her introduce a new depth to her creations. Now not only the Fafinettes are fly girls, they also run a whole universe of creatures, homes and vehicles. It's called The Carmine Vault. It's a dreamy and peculiar place. Welcome in."

Tres cool, now if you would excuse me I have to paint a heart on my cheek.

See.

This is beautiful, haunting mysterious, and I Want to start doing my eyeshadow like that.
