Rodarte X Maggie Cheung

Posted on: Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Joyce, a HK based boutique, have collaborated with Rodarte and Maggie Cheung for a to raise money for UNICEF.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy ( the duo behind Rodarte) designed four unique dresses inspired by Maggie Cheung movies: In the Mood For Love, Hero, Clean and Heroic Trio.

Above is a ethereal and beautiful short film (And film stills) by Wing Shya that showcases the four dress. Best part? For every time the video is watched Joyce will donate $1 to UNICEF.

Songs for a break up Vol. 1

Fitz & The Tantrums Performing LIVE! that's right LIVE!!! "Breakin' the Chains of Love" from Fitz&theTantrums on Vimeo.

"Winds Of Change" Fitz & The Tantrums from Fitz&theTantrums on Vimeo.

I’ve been listening non stop to Fitz and the Tantrums debut EP, “Songs For A Break Up: Volume 1.” The Los Angeles based band's songs are soulful, well crafted and instantly memorable, with big choruses and beats that wrap you up in their incandescent wake.

The retro feel of the video is so spot on. Pour yourself a big ole' glass of red and have a dance party by yourself, it feels so gooooood.

Interview: Ben Taverniti

Posted on: Monday, March 22, 2010

Check out my interview with Ben Taverniti, the lead designer at Hudson Jeans, on the new HUDSON Minimalist Collection.

Q: What was the inspiration for the Minimalist collection?

A: The Minimalist Collection is about bringing denim back to its roots. It features jeans in their purest state that come in anti-color palette of black, white and unwashed indigo. The collection has minimal detailing, but the accents and the rich, raw quality of denim make the collection what it is.

Q: What is the differentiating factor from this collection and classic Hudson denim?

A: HUDSON collection is a natural evolution from our core line. It’s the full expression of the brand—the purest and most highly designed.

Q: Have you seen the HBO show "How to make it in America" (if so), how does their hustle to create their jean company relate to the real life hustle? Is it all about the type of jean material?

A: Honestly I’ve never seen the show, but I’ve heard its based in New York. All the premium expertise is in LA, so if I were them I would probably jump on a plane.

Q: Who wears jeans better, New Yorkers? Londoners, or Los Angelenos?

A: Cool isn’t geographical.

Q: Wide Leg was hot, then boot cut, now skinnies. What is the next "trendy" jean in your opinion?

A: The high waisted jean done right.

Q: Where is the Minimalist collection available?

A: Barneys New York, Barneys L.A. Marios, Tender, 4510 and Jeffrey

Q: Does this collection and the three additional collections have new tags?

A: It’s all HUDSON:)

110 Years in Fashion

Posted on: Sunday, March 21, 2010

I was honored to be chosen as one of the bloggers to participate in the California Market Center's project "110 Years of Fashion". Each blogger (including Jazzi McG, Fashion is Poison, So Super Sam, and lots more) were paired with a designer to pick out an outfit and design a set using whatever we wanted for the decade. I got the 70s (yay!) I was paired with the amazingly sweet and talented team at Thursday Island. An adorable brand with great hippie/boho inspired pieces. Check out the exhibit through Tuesday at the California Market Center Lobby!

Where you lay your head.

"Thierry Bouët is happy in his bed. That’s where much of his inspiration comes from. He wanted to check and see whether his intensely close bond with that particular piece of furniture was an illness. After interviewing people and photographing them in more than 80 beds, he could rest assured: some folks are even sicker than he is."

My bed is seriously one of my favorite places to be.
